From its jungle outlook and natural river flows to its striking sand dunes and blow out areas, playing golf at Laguna Lang Co is an enjoyable and interesting examination. Golfers have admired Sir Nick Faldo’s work on the golf course for years. After all, winning six majors and 41 events around the world is very impressive. And although the 57-year-old Englishman has long-retired from the tour, his latest work’s at the golf course are sure to leave golfers praising his efforts for many years to come.
Among other things, Faldo has turned his attention to golf course architecture. And his cleverly designed Laguna Lang Co Golf Club in Vietnam is a treat.
Located within the greater Laguna Lang Co integrated resort, the 6961-yard (6365-metre) layout is situated 40 minutes from Danang airport on Vietnam’s burgeoning central coast.
Featuring lush vegetation, stunning mountain backdrops and expansive bunkering, the layout has been artfully carved through the jungle estate to offer golfers a series of challenges in an aesthetically pleasing setting.
The course weaves between trees, natural streams, over rice fields and through massive rock features.
Water hazards are prominent throughout the layout including running all the way along the right hand side of the 1st and 2nd holes. Water is also a prominent feature most of the way down the right hand side of the 15th fairway. At the 10th, 12th and 13th holes, streams flank the left hand side of the fairways—Faldo’s routed the course through the natural landscape with little bias towards one playing style.
Risk reward options are another distinct course feature. The most notable is at the right to left shaped 4th hole. You can shorten the monster 430-metre par 4 by cutting the corner. But don’t get too greedy—another water hazard and expanse of dense vegetation will snap up any shot that doesn’t make the fairway. This is a brilliant golf hole.
Languna Lang Co features a fabulous set of par 3s. Each short hole boasts stunning settings. The pick of the bunch is the 152-metre, 11th. The pretty hole features large boulders protruding out of its dense jungle location.
And the finishing stretch of holes will blow you away too. Featuring numerous bunker complexes cut into a natural sand dune, the 17th and 18th fairways run adjacent to the coast. The par-4, par-5 closing holes complete a round of golf laden with fun-filled challenges and natural beauty.
In his playing days, Faldo was the master at managing himself around tough golf tracks. Take a leaf from Faldo’s way of playing golf to navigate yourself successfully around Laguna Lang Co. The grip it and rip it approach is likely to bring most golfers unstuck. Accuracy and clever course management is the lesson to scoring well at this classy Faldo track.
