DAY 14: Sunday 10 September LISBON
Today we explore the best of Lisbon’s landmarks and history with a local guide. Starting in the historical Belem quarter, we visit Jeronimos Monastery and the neighbouring patisserie to sample the delicious Pastéis de Belém, now famous the world over as Portuguese Tarts. We will spend time exploring Bairro Alto and its many cafes and restaurants over lunch before continuing on to Praça do Comércio. With its grand 18th century arcades, lemon meringue facades and mosaic cobbles, the riverfront square out-pomps all squares. Everyone arriving by boat used to disembark here, and it still feels like the gateway to Lisbon, busy with activity and rattling trams.
This evening we will head out for a Portuguese dining experience to remember at one of the city’s top restaurants. (B, D)
DAY 15: Monday 11 September OBIDOS
We check out and travel along the banks of the Tagus River and into the Sintra region for a full-day tour complete with wine tastings. With its rippling mountains, dewy forests thick with ferns and lichens, exotic gardens and glittering palaces, Sintra is like a page torn from a book of fairy tales.
After lunch we continue up the coastline making our way to Obidos, known as Portugal’s most romantic medieval village. This is partly due to once being given away as a wedding gift by a king to the love of his life but also for its incredibly picturesque cobblestone streets lined with colourful houses adorned with geraniums and bougainvillea. We check into the beautiful Praia D’El Rey Marriot Hotel.

DAY 16: Tuesday 12 September OBIDOS
Today we tee off at Royal Obidos Golf Club. This relatively new layout has fast become one of the area’s must-play courses. It was golfing legend Seve Ballesteros’ last design. It offers spectacular views to the ocean and to the Obidos lagoon. The greens are perfectly maintained and manicured with many featuring wicked runoffs that will test your approach.
Tonight, we’ll swap our golf clubs for wooden spoons for a Portuguese cooking master class. Chorizo bread, pastries and Portuguese desserts are among the creations on the menu. A highlight of previous tours, loads of fun is guaranteed. (B)
DAY 17: Wednesday 13 September OBIDOS
Our closing round is at the famous Praia D’El Rey Golf Course. This fantastic course is currently ranked inside Portugal’s top 10 courses. Designed by American architect Cabell B Robinson the layout makes great use of an unspoilt beachside with towering natural dunes surrounding many holes.
Tonight, we will toast our champions and friendships, new and old, over our gala presentation dinner at the resort. (B, CD)
DAY 18: Thursday 14 September HOME
A hearty breakfast and fond farewells this morning before we transfer back to Lisbon International Airport for our return flights or onward travel arrangements. (B)
